Is it football? Is it samba? Or is it both?
Who will win the Brazil 2014 World Cup?
GoWin!’s Trip To The Future! will predict who will be the winner of the 2014 World Cup from Brazil as well as the chances to win for each participant team.

In our endeavour to support our brave Three Lions in their tough challenge at World Cup, we have already started our journey to Brazil.
It will not be just a common supporter job as we will try to gather as much information as we can to infuse them into GoWin!, in order to get the most accurate predictions possible.

The very first impression is that Brazilian winters are clearly hotter than most summers in Europe. And it’s not just the climate. It’s the people, it’s the samba and it’s the football… And moreover, there is the vibe of the world’s biggest football competition everywhere here in the air!

So who will win the World Cup? Who will make it?
Let’s take a look at the groups!

A

Group A Teams Comparison: Croatia Mexico Cameroon Brazil

Prediction Group A
Brazil is a magnificent country and, without doubt, Brazilian football is fabulous. Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has the science of big tournaments, the talented players have joy in their legs, Neymar comes with the magic and hundreds of millions of fans want the trophy. It can be done but it won’t be as easy as with samba! Mexico, who shocked favourites Brazil in 2012 to win the Olympic gold medal, is now a mix of talent and experience. The Manchester United’s star Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez and Oribe Peralta can make the difference in the groups. Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o is a legend. But legends are usually quite old to help some Lions become Indomitable again. Bayern Munich’s forward Mario Mandzukic, suspended for the Brazil game will only have two games to help Croatia and this may not be enough.

B

Group B Teams Comparison: Chile Spain Australia Netherlands

Prediction Gr. B
The 2010 World Cup winners and finalists, unbeaten in qualifying, Spain and the Netherlands still have hard to surpass, rock solid teams. Chile, who finished third in South American qualifying are one of the good teams of this tournament. With pleasant and positively aggressive football they would have the potential to reach the quarter-finals even in this group. No mercy! The question will be Vicente Del Bosque or Louis van Gaal, Arjen Robben or Andres Iniesta? With maybe the youngest squad of the tournament but also with fully experienced and fit players, the Netherlands has the winning mixture and van Gaal can make them whirl. Let’s see! Australia is a very nice country but with poor football. Maybe at surfing football (is there such a thing?!) they would have a chance! Ozzies, think about this!

C

Group C: Japan Colombia Greece Ivory Coast

Prediction Gr. C
The absence of Falcao has obviously leveled the chances in the fights to win this group. But Colombia still have plenty of talents and their attacking skills remain important and decisive. With an impressive total of goals scored in tough European competitions, Jackson Martinez, Carlos Bacca assisted by Monaco’s playmaker James Rodriguez can easily rank Colombia very high this time. However, football is played by eleven players. Manchester City’s top-scorer Yaya Toure, Lille’s forward Salomon Kalou and the experienced striker Didier Drogba recalled from Galatasaray are the most prominent guarantees of Ivory Coast. But be warned, this African nation is full of talents. How far they will go will mostly depends on their French coach Sabri Lamouchi. The guarantees are high and the circumstances are better than in the two previous editions. Japan makes high-end robots but the Japanese players are not robots, although some of them believe they are. They run out of power too early in the match. It is hard to beat Greece so the options left to their opponents are a draw or a defeat. The success of the Greeks will depend on the combination of these two options.

D

Group D: Italy England Costa Rica Uruguay

Prediction Group D
Three old glories and a cheeky team. Italy are the favourites but their well-known slow start may give the other teams a chance to win the group. Pirlo’s experience, Balotelli’s madness and Cesare Prandelli’s advanced tactics seem to make a perfect combination this time for Squadra Azzurra. Freshness is the key. As always, there is so much pressure put on the Three Lions. And it’s not just the pride of an old tradition or the strong desire of the most beautiful fans. There is also a justified feeling of confidence that Roy Hodgson’s lions Rooney, Baines or Gerrard will do their best to make England proud once again. They are brave for us but can they really? Otherwise a good team, current Copa America holders, finishing fourth at the last World Cup and with a lot of history behind, Uruguay struggled to qualify, having now diminished chances and being forced to fight against Costa Rica for their place. Some Costa Ricans may consider themselves unlucky to be forced to face such strong teams but they can also consider themselves very lucky to have the chance to learn from three glorious World Cup winners. But their team is bold and somewhat disrespectful and may have a third opinion. They will really want to teach their lesson and they really can do it. Glory is fleeting...

E

Group E: France Switzerland Honduras Ecuador

Prediction Gr. E
Although there is no doubt that France and Switzerland can easily go further in the competition it’s not a sure thing that they will be able to win every point in the fights against Ecuador and Honduras. Seen by some as no longer being an elite team, France, led by coach Didier Deschamps, have started an accelerate ascension lately. In spite of the loss of Patrick Ribery, the comeback of their days of glory could take place right here in Brazil as the signs are good. Pogba is an impressive young player and there are also others as the French pool of talents is big. Switzerland’s squad is robust and bold but they do not lack the talent either. Led by Ottmar Hitzfeld, one of the best and most experienced trainers of this World Cup and with players like Bayern Munich's star Shaqiri, the Swiss will have a long road throughout Brazil this time.

F

Group F: Argentina Bosnia Iran Nigeria

Prediction Gr. F
Captain Lionel Messi will try to recover the glory lost this season with Barcelona and coach Alejandro Sabella seems to be the most able to help him do it. But Argentina are not just Messi. They are an incredible collection of top players from top clubs. Premier League winner Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Spanish La Primera’s star Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid) and Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain will develop an anarchic style of attacking football that no one can stop. Argentina’s goal is simple: they will have to win the group to face the rival Brazil as late as possible, in the big final from Sunday 13th July, at the Maracana Stadium. Take care, in the knockout stages anarchy is a double-edged weapon. The Nigerian Super Eagles are young and full of qualities. But Nigeria will need a lot of discipline and also have to make big improvements to their game to beat the debutants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have inherited the force and experience of former Yugoslavia. Highly ranked in Asia, Iran will realize that the requirements are higher here and will have to play for a dignified 4th place.

Game

G

Group G: United States Germany Portugal Ghana

Prediction Gr. G
Germany are determined to top the group but the opposition will be tough. And it’s not just Portugal, Ghana and USA will also play hard for their chance to advance to the last 16. The Yankees may not have the best players but coach Klinsmann surely is a one of the best connoisseurs of German football and this is a big advantage. If not enough helped by his teammates, Real Madrid’s Golden Shoe Cristiano Ronaldo is not enough to make Portugal shine against such big players from Bundesliga and not only: Sami Khedira (Real Madrid), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) or Andre Schurrle (Chelsea) intelligently led by Joachim Low and his trustful captain, Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich). Therefore, Portugal will have a harsh dispute with Ghana for the 2nd place, in the last match of the group, as the Black Stars from Ghana are determined to replicate their positive records at World Cup.

Group H: Russia Belgium South Korea Algeria

Prediction Group H
In only two years, Marc Wilmots transformed Belgium into a real football machine. They are athletic, aggressive, incisive and, most important, effective. So there’s no wonder they now are so well ranked in any worldwide top. But to win the group they’ll also have to pay much attention to Algeria as the Arab counter-attacks are ruthless. The Desert Foxes seem to have borrowed the science of the game from France. Or is it France who borrowed their talents in the past? Russia is yet to prove they are a force and this may be one of the best opportunities as Capello doesn’t like to fail twice in a row. As always, South Korea do not lack ambition and the bronze medal at the London Olympics gives them the hope that they also have the force to reach the last 16 at the World Cup tournament. Hope is a virtue…
